Sea Scouting in Cascade Pacific Council
Organization:
Sea Scouting in Cascade Pacific Council is organized slightly different than is normally seen. Although it can sometimes be a blessing or a curse, Sea Scouts occupy their own, separate district. Normally, sea scouts are organized into the districts where they are chartered. Allowing Sea Scouts to have their own district has led to a tailored district with functions specific to support our needs. Traditionally our ships would be "lost" as a minority in the demand for standard district resources. Existing as our own district also allows us to have a greater voice on council level involvement - ensuring that we have the opportunity to provide a quality program in line with the Council goals.
A curse then? Becoming our own seperate district has also lead to some anonomity. We have become one of the least known parts of Scouting in our council. Indeed, many Scouters don't realize that the Sea Scouts still exist. At the time of this writing, there are 93 registered youth in Sea Scouts, compared to hundreds just 10 years ago. It is true, that we hardley exist, but this parigdim is shifting...our growth thus far in 2003 has been 30%
Join us as we re-vitalize one of the best kept secrets in Scouting!
